Save Your Links

Creating and Modifying Your Account

Create public account

Click on the Create Public Account link on the left side of the screen. A new window will open and you will be requested to enter a name for your Public Account. The Public Account name must be unique across the SaveYourLinks system.

Similar to the User Name, the Public Account name cannot contain any special characters. Every user of the SaveYourLinks site can view the public accounts and send messages to the owner of the public account requesting changes.

ONLY the owner of the public account (the user who created it) can make changes and access the messages related to the public account.

Create Links to E-Mails

You can create Links to email accounts.

This is an easy way to keep in touch with your friends without having to keep re-typing in their email address from an old email account to a new email account. To add an e-mail address, click on the “Add E-mail” button above the links table.

A new window will pop up where you will be able to enter the person’s name and their e-mail address. NOTE: The e-mail addresses do not need to contain the mailto: protocol.

When you click on an e-mail address in SaveYourLinks, a window will pop up allowing you to send a message. Otherwise, e-mail addresses are considered the same as links for purposes of moving and deleting.

Read Messages

If there are any messages pending, The Read Messages link will be visible above the User Options link on the left side of the screen. The number of messages to be read will appear in parentheses next to the name of the public account.

To read messages sent regarding any public accounts which you own, click on the Read Messages Link on the left side of the screen.

A new screen will appear with the message and sender name. You may delete the message or choose to close the new screen which saves the message.

Send Messages

To send a message to the owner of a public account (to ask the owner to add, change, or delete a link) while in the public account, simply click on the Send Message button, and this will open up a new window if you’re using craigslist for hookups.

Type your name and message in the appropriate boxes on the window and click Send.

Note: If you want an answer from the owner of the public account includes your email address. The maximum length of a message is 500 characters.

Cookies

What is a cookie? A handle, transaction ID, or other token of agreement between cooperating programs.

Typically they are used to authenticate or identify a registered user of a web site without requiring the user to sign in every time they access that site.

You can see how dangerous this can be if you are signed on at a computer at school or at work.

Anyone who goes to the SaveYourLinks website will be able to view, change, and delete your private account as well as change and delete anything in public accounts owned by the user.

The cookies will be deleted if the check box remains unchecked.

However, your browser does need to be enabled to accept cookies for the SaveYourLinks site to work. See below for more information.

If you are using Internet Explorer 4.0:

In Internet Explorer 3.0, got to View, Options, Advanced and click on the button that says Warn Before Accepting “Cookies.”

Cookie choices in your Netscape browser

Beginning with version 4.0, Netscape Navigator began giving users the power to control cookies.

In version 4.0 and higher, you can activate your “Cookie Alert” by pulling down the Edit menu and clicking Preferences. Click Advanced Settings at the bottom of the dialog box, and choose from the following:

  • Accept all cookies.
  • Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server.
